Description

Start your own dye garden! This set includes the seeds of 6 different plants used for natural dyeing: Rudbeckia, Dyer’s Coreopsis, Hopi Red Dye Amaranth, Japanese Indigo, Dyer’s Chamomile and Woad. All were grown in my own suburban Minnesota garden with no pesticides or herbicides and hand picked and sorted. I can’t WAIT to share my love of gardening and natural dye with you! Read below for more details, but important note – if you live in certain parts of the country I will be unable to send Woad and will substitute with an extra and equal value portion of Japanese Indigo. **These seeds were harvested in 2023 for 2024 season planting**

Dyer’s Chamomile: (Golden Marguerite, Cota tinctoria or Anthemis tinctoria). The flowers provide a bright, strong, light-fast yellow natural dye.

Dyer’s Coreopsis: A North American native, Dyer’s Coreopsis is a gorgeous, bee-attracting summer bloom that also gives you a bright orange to red-brown in the dye pot.

Hopi Red Dye Amaranth: A gorgeous annual 4 to 6 feet tall with long, draping flower heads, this amaranth is a stunner in the garden and has so many uses.

Japanese Indigo: An easy to grow member of the knotweed family, Japanese Indigo is a great option for those looking for a natural blue dye.

Woad: Used to make blue dye since ancient times, woad has tinted fibers for the ancient Egyptians, the Vikings, and now for you.

Gloriosa Daisy: (Black-eyed Susan, Rudbeckia hirta). The flowers provide a yellow to green natural dye and are a beautiful garden addition.

IMPORTANT: Woad can be invasive in certain areas and is considered a “noxious weed” in certain US states. Because of this, I cannot ship to the following states: California, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, Oregon, Nevada, Montana, Idaho, Arizona, Colorado, or New Mexico. See https://plants.usda.gov/core/profile?symbol=ISTI for more information. If you live in one of these areas I will substitute Japanese Indigo. International shipping is not available.
