Dried Dyer’s Coreopsis/Cosmos Flowers

Description

This listing is for a mix of dried Dyer’s Coreopsis (Coreopsis tinctoria) and Cosmos (Cosmos sulphureus) blossoms, carefully collected and stored over a year of growing in my garden. A North American native, Dyer’s Coreopsis is a gorgeous, bee-attracting summer bloom that also gives a bright orange to red-brown in the dye pot. Cosmos is another lovely annual bloom that helps to enhance and add to the orange dye potential. I never use pesticides or herbicides and all flowers are hand collected and sorted.

There is a large amount of dye potential packed into each blossom, but the more blossoms you use the deeper your dye results will be. I like to use about 1:3 dried flower to fabric or yarn weight.

To bring out the full dye potential of these flowers you will need to mordant your fabric or yarn before dyeing. You may visit my blog at knittyvet.com to read more about this process.

– Color: Produces bright orange to red/brown on mordanted fiber
– Amount: Sold in 7gm units (each unit will dye about 50gm or 2 oz of fiber). Message me if you would like to buy a larger amount!

Because of the variabilities of working with nature to grow flowers/harvest shrubs and then hand dyeing the fiber, each skein is a soft, squishy, work of art. Your skein will be similar, but maybe not exactly like the one in the picture.
